Joselu set to leave for Alaves

08/07/2019

29 year old Spanish striker Joselu looks set to leave Newcastle for Spanish side Alaves. The fee being suggested is around €2m. At the start of the month, Spanish media reported that the transfer was being held up by legal issues. However, it now looks like Joselu is set to travel to Alaves training complex in the next couple of days.

Joselu has had 52 first team appearances for the Magpies and has scored 7 goals. He joined Newcastle in 2017, in a £5m move from Stoke City. He has now entered the final year of his contract at St James'. Therefore, it does make sense to try and cash in on him now.

The Spaniard has been out of favour at St James' recently, and therefore many fans will be eager to see him leave. However, his departure would follow very soon after Rondon's return to West Brom and Perez's departure to Leicester. This would lead us very short of attacking options and would leave us with only Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto as our forwards. This would be a massive downgrade from last season and leaves us with no alternatives to come on for one of them in the latter stages of a game or if one of them suffered an injury. This would mean, if we didn't make any attacking signings this window, we will be in a very difficult position come the start of the season. This would just worsen what is already set to be a tough season.
